One day, four landmarks, and scenery that has no business being this close together. This day tour pairs the legendary Beshbarmag Mountain with the colour-striped hills of Khizi, the rose-tinted salt lake of Masazir and the marble-white Heydar Aliyev Mosque — a single guided day that runs from ancient legend to natural wonder to modern architecture.

The Route

Beshbarmag Mountain

The day is anchored by Beshbarmag — the "Five-Finger Mountain" near Siyazan and one of Azerbaijan's most revered sites. For centuries travellers have stopped at this rock rising sheer from the coastal plain; it carries deep spiritual meaning for locals and rewards visitors with wide views over the Caspian lowlands. It is the landmark that gives this tour its name.

The Striped Mountains of Khizi

Next, the surreal multi-coloured mountains of Khizi. Bands of red, ochre, pink and brown sediment fold across the hillsides in a pattern so vivid it is often likened to a painted desert or a Martian panorama. It is the most photographed natural wonder in the region and the visual centrepiece of the day.

Lake Masazir — the Salt Lake

Closer to Baku sits Lake Masazir, a mineral salt lake famous for the pink tint its waters take on under the right conditions. Beyond the colour, it is a working salt lake with a long history — a quietly unusual counterpoint to the mountains.

Lunch

Between the landscapes and the city we break for lunch and a short rest. Lunch is arranged separately so you can eat to your own taste and budget.

Heydar Aliyev Mosque

The tour closes in Baku at the Heydar Aliyev Mosque, among the largest and most graceful mosques in the country. Its brilliant white stone, twin minarets and finely worked interior make a calm, elegant finale after a day in the open landscape.
