The Best Beaches in Baku: A Guide to the Absheron Coast

Where to swim near Baku — a guide to the best Absheron Peninsula beaches, from Mardakan and Bilgah to Shikhov, plus the season and how to get there.

The Best Beaches in Baku: A Guide to the Absheron Coast

Baku sits right on the Caspian Sea, and when summer arrives the whole city heads for the coast. Most of the best beaches near Baku line the Absheron Peninsula — a short drive from the centre — where sandy shores, beach clubs and quiet resort villages stretch along the warm Caspian. Here is where to go, when to visit, and how to turn it into a full day out.

The Best Beaches Near Baku

Mardakan

A leafy resort village on the northern Absheron coast, Mardakan has long been Baku's favourite summer escape — sandy beaches, fig and pomegranate gardens, and family dachas (country houses). It is calm, green and family-friendly. Mardakan is also where we run our Caspian dacha food tour — a farm-to-table feast and kutab (qutab) master-class at a real seaside dacha, the perfect pairing with a beach day.

Bilgah

Just north of Mardakan, Bilgah is one of the most popular beach areas near Baku, home to well-known beach resorts and clubs with sunbeds, pools and cafés right on the sand.

Shikhov (Shikh) Beach

The closest beach to the city, Shikhov lies just south-west of Baku along the bay — the quickest dip if you are short on time, with a row of beach clubs.

Buzovna, Nardaran & Zagulba

These traditional Absheron villages east of the city offer more local, laid-back beaches away from the resort crowds — a glimpse of everyday Caspian summer life.

Nabran (for a longer trip)

About 3–3.5 hours north near the Russian border, Nabran is a forested beach-resort region where woodland meets the sea — best as an overnight rather than a day trip.

Make the most of the Absheron coast: cruise the bay on our Baku boat tour, explore the peninsula's history on the Gala, Zira & Pirallahi tour, or feast at a Mardakan dacha on the Caspian dacha food tour. For more ideas, see our guide to things to do in Baku.
