Chase Hidden Waterfalls in Azerbaijan's Talysh Mountains
Deep in the emerald folds of the Lerik district, a handful of waterfalls thunder down forested gorges far from any paved road — and most travellers never see them. Our Lerik Waterfalls Tour from Baku is built entirely around these hidden cascades: the mighty Galabin, the secluded Bibiyoni, and the ice-cold Sarin Bulag spring. It is one of the most rewarding day adventures in Azerbaijan — trading crowded landmarks for roaring water, ancient oak forests, and pure mountain air.
Galabin Waterfall — Swim Beneath Lerik's Crown Jewel
Galabin (Qələbin) is the highlight of the day. A powerful curtain of water tumbles down a steep rocky gorge framed by centuries-old oaks and gathers in a natural pool at its base. On a warm day there is nothing better than a refreshing swim right under the falls — the moment that turns this trip from sightseeing into a genuine adventure.
Bibiyoni Waterfall — A Secret Beneath the Green Canopy
Hidden under a dense, almost jungle-like canopy, Bibiyoni is a quieter and more intimate cascade. We linger here for around 1.5 hours so you can wander the mossy banks, breathe in the cool forest air, and capture some of the most photogenic scenery in the entire Talysh range.
Sarin Bulag — The Cold Mountain Spring
Between the two waterfalls we stop at Sarin Bulag (Sərin Bulaq), a crystal-clear spring pouring straight out of the rock. Cup your hands and drink some of the purest, ice-cold mineral water in Azerbaijan — a small ritual locals credit for the famous longevity of the Talysh people.
Getting There: Why You Need a 4x4
There is simply no other way to reach these waterfalls. We begin with a smooth, air-conditioned transfer from central Baku in a premium Mercedes Sprinter van. At the Lerik foothills the paved road ends, so we switch into rugged 4x4 SUVs and let expert local drivers handle the steep forest trails, river crossings, and mud tracks that ordinary tour buses can never pass. The off-road leg is not the point of the trip — it is the key that unlocks waterfalls almost no one else gets to see. The rugged 4x4 SUVs are arranged locally and paid separately, so they are not included in the tour price.
Traditional Azerbaijani Breakfast at Hajioğlu (Included)
The day starts with a hearty mountain breakfast at the famous Hajioğlu Restaurant: hot Tandir bread, boiled eggs, fresh country butter, mountain honey, thick cream (qaymaq), white cheese, olives, and aromatic tea. This authentic feast is fully included in your tour price.
Traditional Talysh Lunch (Optional)
We round off the adventure at a rustic forest restaurant serving true Lerik flavours — chicken Levengi (walnut-stuffed and clay-oven baked), fresh kebabs, hot Tandir bread, and a classic samovar tea ceremony. Lunch is not included in the tour price and is paid directly at the restaurant (allow approx. AZN 15–20 per person).
