The walk divides naturally into three moods. It begins beside the river, where the path crosses and re-crosses clear mountain water running over stone. Then the forest closes in — shade, birdsong and a noticeable drop in temperature as you gain height. Higher still the trees thin and the Greater Caucasus opens up around you, ridge behind ridge. Seven kilometres from the trailhead you reach Mujug Waterfall, the turning point of the day; from there you walk the same beautiful valley back, for 14 km in total.

Two waterfalls in one valley

The route is named for its two falls. Laza Waterfall shares its name with the mountain village the trail sets out from — one of Gabala's highest and most scenic settlements, tucked under the ridgeline. Mujug Waterfall marks the far end of the walk, where the valley narrows and the water drops through the rock. Between the two, the path is the attraction in its own right: this is a trail people walk for the walking, not just for the destination.

Who it's for and when to go

This is a proper walking day rather than a stroll: 14 km on uneven mountain ground with real elevation change and river crossings, though no technical climbing and nothing that calls for scrambling. Regular walkers and active families with teenagers handle it comfortably, and the guide sets the pace to the group rather than the clock. The season runs from late spring into autumn — the falls are at their fullest in May and June after the snowmelt, while September and October trade some of that volume for golden forest and the clearest mountain air of the year.
