Half an hour out of Baku the asphalt runs out and the hills take over — rocky dirt tracks, dusty climbs and long open ridgelines with a lake lying in the valley below. This quad bike tour from Baku puts you on your own ATV for a guided ride through that country, timed for late afternoon so you finish with the sun going down behind the ridges.

Riding your own quad

You ride, rather than being driven. After a short briefing and a run through the controls on flat ground, a lead guide takes the group out onto the trails and sets a pace that matches the least experienced rider. The machines are automatic, so there are no gears to think about — if you can ride a bicycle, you can ride one of these. Helmets are provided, and two people can share a quad if only one of you wants to drive.

Where you ride

This is not a road trip. The whole route stays on unsurfaced mountain tracks in the hills outside the city — the same quiet country our horseback riding tour near Baku uses. Expect rutted trails, loose stone, a few short steep climbs, and ridge viewpoints looking down over the lake with the hills folding away behind it. It is genuinely off-road terrain, and dusty in summer, but nothing on the route demands previous experience.

Choosing your distance

You pick how long you want to stay out — routes of 4, 6, 8 or 10 km:

  • 4 km — a short taster, enough to get the feel of the machine and reach the first viewpoint
  • 6 km — the most popular option, with time on the ridge above the lake
  • 8 km — a longer loop further into the hills
  • 10 km — the full route, best if you want real riding time rather than a sample

Total time on site runs from about 45 minutes to two hours, depending on the distance. The price starts at ₼100 and is set by how many of you are riding, not by the distance — choose a date and a group size in the booking form and the full amount is shown before you pay.

Good to know

Riders need to be adults with a reasonable level of mobility; children can ride as passengers behind an adult. The tour runs year-round, though late spring and autumn are the most comfortable — midsummer afternoons in these hills are hot and there is no shade on the trail. Sunset departures book out first.
